Who we are

Lakes DIstrict Air Rescue Trust (LDART) was established in 1991 to provide emergency medical transport in the Southern Lakes region of New Zealand.

Lakes District Air Rescue Trust now exists to support dedicated helicopter air ambulance services and and Search and Rescue capability in the Southern Otago, Southern Lakes and Southland regions of New Zealand.

This support is provided by way of funding for emergency medical equipment, equipment maintenance and training for specialist crews utilised on medical and rescue helicopter missions in our region.

We have a proud  history of Rescue Helicopter services for a variety of emergency missions and are delighted to continue to provide support for ongoing emergency assistance to those in need in our region.

Mission Capabilities

We provide funding to train Paramedics, Doctors, Specialist Crewmen and Search and Rescue crews to the highest standards.

We also support the operations of the  regions Search and Rescue capability including Sub Alpine teams, Alpine Cliff Rescue teams,  Water jumpers and Search Dogs. We ensure these teams are kept trained to the highest level for ready response at any time of day or night.

Lakes District Air Rescue Trust

Lakes District Air Rescue Trust supports operators of emergency rescue helicopters from bases in Queenstown and Te Anau, covering most areas of the beautiful lower South Island of New Zealand.

Our region extends from those bases to: the Southern Ocean, Campbell, Auckland and The Mutton Birds Islands, Stewart Island, Fiordland and Mt. Aspiring National parks. Also servicing New Zealand's premier skifields at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona, Treble Cone, Waiourau Snow Farm and world famous walks like the Milford, Routeburn, Hollyford, Greenstone and Caples tracks.

We provide training assistance to Specialist crewmen and  Wakatipu Search and Rescue teams of all disciplines to ensure they operate to the highest standards of safety and currency.

Some of New Zealand's wildest and remotest country lies within the operating region and we rely on donations and sponsorships to ensure we can support our aligned operators with the best equipment and training.
